Evolving & Maintaining your site.

Statistics show that a site becomes outdated after a period of 6 months, sometimes less.
We on the other hand don't necessarily like to trust that exact time frame. It may be sooner...or later.
Falloff in usage reports, hot trends in design, new technology and good old fashioned common sense are but a few dictators of change. What people want will change.

The other end of the scope says, "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
Sometimes, "speaking from experience", a site gets changed to soon when it's on the upswing. An upswing that could be worth millions. It's not a horse race, it's an exact science.

As with general maintenance these same may hold true for times w hen a site requires an overhaul..

Your information has changed: Additions • Product changes or New products • Corporate policy changes • News • Events • Reviews • Job postings and more.

Users necessitate a change: Usage reports and information gathered through the site will indicate ways to improve (there is always room to improve). • Certain pages may be getting viewed more for a reason, indicating strengths to be utilized elsewhere • Keyword search indicators • Requests for information. Additional information • Communication • Legally requested changes.

Technology causes change: whether we like it or not, technology changes and sometimes requires change in programming or other areas.

The Internet has revolutionized information delivery, transforming customer service to a level where dated material is a thing of the past and today's digital environment holds no room for dated material.

A well evolved, maintained site offers the ability to instantly and correctly provide information.

"The Internet presents an excellent opportunity to extend your brand marketing strategy. Whether your presenting an online educational presentation, or selling yourself as president, you must make the right impact and hold a lasting presence. Maintaining a positive brand representation in your online marketing strategy is filled with details that underly a website's structure. Be sure the firm you choose has the experience to know what those are and how they can build, not destroy brand relations."

Client Maintained Possibilities
In the beginning, if you want to maintain all or some of your site, your web firm will need to know in order to customize these areas where technology permits.

Just as we can educate our clients in certain areas of marketing, MedeaWorks and other firms can also train those individuals for certain changes to your site. Your site's structure is already in place and certain changes that will need to be made are not programming intensive. Many applicacations exist that allow word processor like manpulation to text, photos and other content, such as Macromedia Contribute, about $99. Changes of a greater nature are most often quickly and easily made by the web firm for a reasonable fee.

Certain pages or sections can be set up so that a client can administer changes through their browser. A client can login in through a password protected area and make changes and additions to existing pages from anywhere. A good example is Miva Merchant, one of the better online shopping carts.

The ability to maintain most site types is platform independent (Mac or PC). Although Wintel platform is more virus proned. The majority of the worlds websites were designed on a Mac and fed to the world by a UNIX computer. Some very basic knowledge of HTML will be needed additionally.

"We truly believe that almost anyone can learn, in a very short time, those things needed to make periodic or daily changes to a site and even improve upon it. We make it so, within the structure of the initial site design."
