Although we've photographed
many construction projects, such as the ICF home at the bottom
left, this particular type of current Time-Lapse Project has been
a vision for some time.
Originally we had intended to film a small commercial building going up, however
the difficulty in camera placements became difficult in close quarters because
of where it was being constructed.
Adequate space is needed throughout
the entire construction process for 16 camera points (or more)
where the view would remain unobscured by excavations, equipment
and materials. Simple single pole mount construction of monopod
support, cemented in will work. Here, used the nearly
indestructible Canon XL1s and a Nikon D-70 to envelope the motion
imaging process.
The finished project,nearly completed
photographically, will be a 30 & 60 second, 24p video that will
rotate 360 degrees from exterior to interiors (with cutaways!),
then out the front door and looking back on the finished house.
Unlike CG work, the finished piece will
show actual levels of construction being done and materials going
into place, some in greater detail than others. But also motion
may not be as smooth at certain points.
The house on the top left is of course
a digital render from the initial plan. As with any long term
construction project certain deviations from the plan were made.
These photos are a partial view with this
update on 4/07. The finished digital imaging will be an ongoing process
as time permits.
