Sheriff Candidate Chris Kehrt

Chris Kehrt
Current: Chief Deputy Mercer Co.

HPD 1994-1999
MCSO 1999-2006

"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Harrodsburg has some of the finest people I've ever met and I hope I can continue to make this a better place in whatever capacity I can".

Chris Kehrt was born in Lexington, Kentucky. His family settled in Shelbyville where he attended school and graduated from Shelby County High in 1984. From there he moved back to Lexington and attended Transylvania University and University of Kentucky.

During that time he enlisted in the US Army Reserve as a Calvary Scout and the US Army ROTC, and after graduating College, Chris entered service in the Army as an infantry platoon leader. After his tour of duty he began his law enforcement career on the Police Force in Brunswick, Georgia.

Chris married his childhood sweetheart, Sarah and after their first daughter was born, they decided to move back to Kentucky where family and friends were. In 1994 they decided that Harrodsburg would be their permanent home. They had both visited the area in college and loved the peaceful surroundings, people and history.

Chris began in Mercer county on the Harrodsburg City Police Force, where he served for five years. He has now been in public service with the Sheriff's Department for seven years.

During their time in Harrodsburg, Chris and Sarah have had a second daughter and both now attend the King Middle School. Chris has coached soccer with MYSA at Anderson Dean Park for four years and has helped out as assistant and is now Head Coach of the Girls Soccer Team at King.

In leisure time, Chris is athletic and enjoys most competitive sports. He still plays adult league soccer in Lexington and occasionally plays softball. He enjoys reading factual based human drama stories and is often amazed by the courage of the very normal people throughout our history.

Chris' immediate family live in Mercer County, including his Mom, Dad and Sister. His Brother is a resident, but he is currently on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan with the US Army.

Chris and Sarah both belong to St. Andrews, where she is the current church council president. They have both taught Sunday school there. Sarah still teaches while Chris has temporarily taken time off.

After 14 years of marriage, wife Sarah, and Chris continue to live life to it's fullest with their two daughters, Katherine and Erika and the many friends they've made here.
